Course Overview:

 

This course provides an introduction to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act 1993 (As Amended) for South Africa. Participants will learn about the key provisions of the act, their rights and responsibilities under the act, and how to comply with the act. They will also learn about the importance of creating a safe and healthy work environment and the benefits of doing so

Course Objectives:

 

  • Understand the purpose and scope of the OHS Act 1993 (As Amended).

  • Understand the key provisions of the act and their implications for the workplace

  • Understand the rights and responsibilities of employers, employees, and other parties under the act

  • Learn how to comply with the act and create a safe and healthy work environment

  • Understand the benefits of creating a safe and healthy work environment

Course Duration: 2 days

The course will be delivered over 2 days, with a total of 16 hours of training.

  • Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety

  • Definition of occupational health and safety

  • Importance of OHS in the workplace

  • Historical overview of OHS in South Africa

  • Occupational Health and Safety Act 1993 (As Amended)

  • Purpose and scope of the act

  • Key provisions of the act

  • Penalties for non-compliance

  • Rights and Responsibilities under the OHS Act 1993 (As Amended)

  • Rights and responsibilities of employers

  • Rights and responsibilities of employees

  • Rights and responsibilities of other parties

  • Compliance with the OHS Act 1993 (As Amended)

  • Creating a safe and healthy work environment

  • Risk assessment and management

  • Reporting and investigating incidents

  • Benefits of a Safe and Healthy Work Environment

Assessment:

Participants will be assessed through a written test at the end of the course. Participants must achieve a minimum of 70% to receive a certificate of completion

Certification:

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion. The certificate is valid for 3 years.

Prerequisites:

There are no formal prerequisites for this course. However, participants should have a basic understanding of English and be over the age of 18 years old.
